Melissa Skottegaard

Melissa Skottegaard serves as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for The Cigna Group^®. In this role, she leads the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications strategies that inform, engage, and deliver measurable impact for the company’s customers, patients, clients, and other key stakeholders. She also oversees the company’s Community Programs and serves as Chair of The Cigna Group Foundation.

Since joining The Cigna Group in 2018 within the communications function, Skottegaard has focused on advancing the company’s growth strategy through communications, and portfolio evolution through multiple complex mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, while supporting the organization through critical periods, including the COVID‑19 pandemic. Her work is grounded in customer-centric, agile, and data‑driven approaches. In early 2026, she expanded her responsibilities to include leadership of Marketing.

Skottegaard has more than 25 years of communications and marketing leadership experience. Prior to joining The Cigna Group in 2018, she was Vice President, Marketing and Communications at TIAA where she also served as the Chief of Staff for the function. Prior to TIAA, she held senior marketing and communication roles including at GE and Genworth Financial.

She holds a master’s degree in communications from the University of Denver, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado.
